Jinfonet’s highly regarded Java based reporting solution, JReport, is rolling out a new edition this summer. The culmination of over a decade of experience in Business Intelligence Reporting, JReport 10 is the cutting edge in scalable and responsive reporting. Building upon its existing JavaEE framework, JReport continues to provide real-time, highly actionable reports that seamlessly embed in your application. This is the first installment in a two-part pre launch series breaking down the exciting and innovative components of the next JReport.

New Interactive Reporting Engine: scalability and responsiveness
JReport’s new Interactive Reporting Engine (IRE) provides unique scalability and performance. The advanced architecture splits engine responsibility, separating the data intensive workloads from interactive client-side tasks such as report layout. Interactive reporting actions like filtering and sorting can now be handled locally, minimizing unnecessary server-client traffic and increasing responsiveness.

Rich Internet Reporting: instantly manipulate report data and style layout locally
Offloading workload to client browsers unencumbers the server, allowing JReport Server to scale up both in the number of end-users and in complexity and workload of reports. JReport’s IRE will scale up alongside your growing business, consistently providing responsive Reports to your users.

Rich Internet Applications: AJAX and Flash report delivery
The Interactive Reporting Engine has enabled JReport to provide Rich Internet Reporting. This streamlined style of web reporting is delivered through Rich Internet Applications (RIA’s) and is available in both AJAX and Flash versions. RIA’s work on the client-side, leveraging previously underutilized CPU’s and reducing response time. Utilizing RIA technology, JReport 10 brings interactive reporting to the next level.

Business View: new metadata layer
In addition, JReport provides a new metadata layer, Business View (BV). BV enables the RIA environment to easily access company data resources for quick, interactive usage. This layer makes client-side web reporting at run time possible, increasing the level and speed of report interaction.

JReport 10 provides a direct and interactive reporting experience. V10 puts the information you need at your fingertips, raising the bar for reporting solutions. Our specialized teams of Business Intelligence experts are here to help take your organization to new heights. Tech Tip – Vertical Group Headers in Table Components

With the new feature of Vertical Group Headers in table reports, you can now make the group header of a table report vertical and display it left to the detail panel, which looks like a crosstab report but has the advantage of being able to display detail fields. It also exports very well to Excel so the data can be more easily sorted and used in Excel columns.

For example, you have a table report which shows customer’s information by different sales regions and territories within each region. The report looks like the following:

To set both the region group header and territory group header vertical to the detail panel, use the following steps:
1. Select the group header panel in the report.
2. In the Report Inspector, find the property “Vertical to Detail Panel,” and set it to true.
3. Save the report.
The end user at run time can also change the panels to vertical. Simply right click in the group header panel, select Table Row… and check the box “Vertical to Detail Panel.”

After the change, the report will look like the following:
